Basic Controls
TEKKEN is a four button fighter. Each button corresponds to a limb. For just starting out, it will give you something to hold onto. Left and right, punch and kick.T
The way one talks about this in the West is simple:
1 is Left Punch
2 is Right Punch
3 is Left Kick
4 is Right Kick

So if you're used to thinking of numbers as directions, forget that entirely.
The notation is important as that is the language of TEKKEN and its inputs. So if I say something like uf+3, I mean tap up and forward and hit 3 at the same time. Thus, directions in this game are represented as one or two letters between:
u = up
d = down
b = back
f = forward
n = neutral (also represented as a ★/☆)
CAPITAL U, D, B, F = hold that direction
(in game, white arrows are taps, black arrows are holds)
So every motion is relative to your opponent. Most fighters are entirely seperate.
There is one more control to keep in mind in this game and that is Rage Art (RA). If you are in Rage health percentage (you'll be low on life and glowing red) you can do a big "gamble" attack that will deal high damage but leave you open and exposed. More on this in the mechanics section, but keep in mind there is a shortcut button just for RA. Very helpful.
Note: You may also bind shortcuts to any extra buttons on your controller or stick. If you play characters that rely on combinations of button presses that are strange or unintuitive, consider binding shortcuts and getting used to them early.
