Tips Going Forward!

Depending on your familiarity with other games, there are some things in TEKKEN that may make you stumble until you break those habits.

Here's some important notes to keep in mind going forward and learning!

IN OTHER GAMES

  • When you get up from the ground, it's either in set increments of time (tech or no tech) or with a reversal option.
  • You typically want to block low until you see an overhead attempt. It's also almost instant to go from crouching to standing.
  • Cross-ups are a very powerful mixup tool.
  • Most characters have a tool or some manner of setplay for their opponent's wakeup game (okizeme).

IN TEKKEN

  • You can remain on the ground as long as you like, but you're vulnerable to low hits. There are no reversals but there's a shitload of ways to get up.
  • You typically want to block high until you see a low or a grab. It takes frames to stand or crouch.
  • You block by simply standing and not hitting a button. Thus, cross-ups don't matter a whole lot. Also, the act of jumping over your opponent is difficult.
  • Characters in this game sacrifice a lot of damage for the ability to try and control the opponent and their wakeup. Some characters excel at it however.
